MICHAEL JACKSON FANS JOIN TO FORM INTERNATIONAL COALITION

An international coalition of Michael Jackson’s fans have joined forces as the Michael Jackson International Legion (MJIL). MJIL is an international media watchdog group aimed at eradicating false and inaccurate reporting on the late Michael Jackson. The group’s goal is to bring awareness to his many charitable and humanitarian acts as well as Jackson’s numerous achievements in the world of music and film. MJIL encourages and promotes truthful and accurate reporting on the late King of Pop, Rock, & Soul Music.
For many years now, it has been commonplace for tabloid and mainstream media alike to feed off negative, hurtful, and often untruthful reports about the entertainer Michael Jackson. Indeed, entire careers have been built based upon sensationalized “news” reports regarding his lifestyle, legal woes, state of health, finances, and family structure. These irresponsible reports have had the unfortunate effect of turning many otherwise rational people against the entertainer on the basis of a blaring headline supported by little to no underlying factual information. Despite this turning of the tide, Michael Jackson maintained millions of fans worldwide who remained devoted to his music and his message.
Upon Michael Jackson's tragic and untimely death on June 25, 2009, the media feeding frenzy increased to a fever pitch, leaving these devoted fans dismayed, demoralized, and dejected. In the wake of this unimaginable tragedy, supporters have banned together to protect the legacy of their icon. Michael Jackson's supporters have grown weary of disingenuous portrayals of their idol as a "self-hating, child molesting, weirdo freak." His name is not "Wacko Jacko." He is Michael Joseph Jackson, dancer, singer, musician, filmmaker, composer, and choreographer. He is a father, son, and brother and, above all, a human being. He was and is the most famous entertainer ever in the history of the world; he touched billions of lives across the globe. We at MJIL want the media to emphasize that he is an unparalleled humanitarian, philanthropist, and activist rather than focusing on salacious and untrue characterizations of Michael Jackson.
MJIL intends to monitor international news reports and will identify and contact publishers of reports which perpetrate false images, contain negative innuendo or otherwise denigrate the memory of Michael Jackson. MJIL also aims to praise, encourage, and distribute truthful and accurage reports. The group promotes and appreciates any efforts at serious, respectful reporting.
We do not believe in engaging those for whom the smearing of Michael Jackson’s name would be the default, those who engage in pure tabloid journalism. Instead, we seek to educate and rehabilitate credible news organizations so that they may see the error of their ways in reporting half-truths, innuendo, and disproven claims. As previously stated, the group does not aim to address tabloid news media; your organization has been identified as a credible mainstream news source. Your audience expects and deserves at least an objective reporting of facts. Please expect to hear from MJIL in the future as this newly formed group of fans will start to collect, analyze, distribute, and respond to examples of the portrayal of Mr. Jackson in the media. Michael Jackson has become part of our national heritage. His contributions to this country and to the world in the areas of music, dance, songwriting, performing, and especially his humanitarian efforts should be highlighted and conveyed to future fans, while innuendo, false accusations, and sensationalistic caricatures are unnecessary, disrespectful, and unproductive. MJIL is prepared to martial millions of Michael Jackson fans worldwide to insure his legacy remains preserved for future generations.
